A Palm Coast woman was arrested Monday after a deputy called out to the Bealls department store at 1210 Palm Coast Parkway found her fighting with one of the store’s loss prevention officers.

The woman, Lori Hope Bloom, 55, had drawn store employee’s Derrick Holmes’ attention when she walked over to a pair of eyeglasses at a display, pulled off the tag, and hid them behind her purse, according to a case report from the sheriff’s office.

Then she walked over to the jewelry section, took a pair of earrings out of their packaging, and dropped them down her shirt. She kept shopping, bought a few things, and walked out of the store without paying for the earrings or glasses.

Holmes confronted her in the parking lot, and she started reaching into her shirt. He told her to show her hands, but she continued, and Holmes, not knowing whether she was reaching for a weapon, tried to handcuff her.

Bloom threw the earrings on the ground and began flailing her arms, but Holmes finally handcuffed her.

She was still trying to pull away from him when the sheriff’s deputy showed up at about 8 p.m. and put another pair of handcuffs on her.

Bloom was arrested on charges of retail theft and resisting a retail merchant, and taken to the Flagler County jail.
