Wings Over Flagler will hold its second-annual fly-in March 26 and March 27, doubling its count to more than 60 vintage warbirds.

The second-annual Wings Over Flagler, a fly-in featuring more than 60 vintage military warbirds, is returning March 26 and March 27, to the Flagler County Airport, in celebration of the naval aviation centennial.

Featuring historic military warbirds from World War II to present, Wings Over Flagler will feature aerobatic stunt displays, weapons displays, flight simulators, hardware from every military branch and helicopter rides.

Bill Mills, owner/chief pilot of Blue Sky Yakrobatics, the company producing Wings Over Flagler is hoping to make this event the largest in county history.

“For us,” Mills said, “it’s a win if 10,000 people came … But we’re hoping for 20,000.”

Servicemen will also be honored in the Legends and Heroes tent, where veterans will gather to sell books they’ve written, speak to kids about the military and share stories.

Seven officers from PBS’ 2005 award-winning 10-hour documentary, “Carrier,” will be in attendance, as well, as part of a “where are they now” feature.

A mass arrival will be held noon Friday, and another 3 p.m. Saturday, featuring nearly 30 Red Star Organization fliers soaring down the beach from the north, flying over the Flagler Pier, circling, then coming down State Road 100 to the event.

“Really what the fly-in does for the county is to put the airport and aviation on display for everyone,” Flagler County Airport Director Roy Sieger said.

The National Guard was slated to be in attendance at the event, as well, but was redirected to Japan to offer disaster relief.

Mills Aviation Charities, an organization funded in large part by Wings Over Flagler, gave away a $1,000 scholarship last year for aviation-related higher learning. This year, Mills hopes to drive the scholarship to $10,000, making it the single largest scholarship in the county.

Tickets at the gate are $7 for adults, $5 for teens and free for children 12 and under. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.wingsoverflagler.com.
