This Weekend: Firefighter's Chili Cook-off

The Flagler County Firefighter’s Union will host its fourth-annual Chili Cook-off 2-8 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Station 92, 130 Airport Road.

Cooking begins at 2 p.m. with an afternoon band. The public is invited to participate in the judging starting at 6 p.m. Winners will be announced at 7 p.m. followed by another concert.

Cost is $15 for children and $5 for adults. Proceeds go to Flagler County Firefighters.

Singing Hands Showcase — 7-9 p.m. April 27-28, at the Matanzas Auditorium, 3535 OId Kings Road N. Songs will be signed in American Sign Language by students to highlight Deaf Awareness. Cost is $5 per person, $3 for seniors and all students with a valid ID. Staff are free. Matanzas High School's ASL Club will donate half of the proceeds toward a scholarship for a Deaf student.
 

‘The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds’ — 7:30 p.m. April 27-28 and 3-5, and 2 p.m. April 29, at Hollingsworth Gallery. A City Repertory Theatre production. One of off-Broadway’s greatest successes, this powerful and moving study of an embittered, vindictive widow and her two young daughters has been hailed as one of the most significant and affecting plays of our time. Admission is $15, student rush is $5 (five minutes before curtain).
 

Men’s Softball Tournament — 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Flagler County Fairgrounds, 150 Sawgrass Road, Bunnell. Entry fee is $175 per team; trophies will be given to the top three teams. All proceeds will benefit the Flagler PAL Falcon Football League. Call 904‐669‐6219.
 

Garage Sale — 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wadsworth Elementary School bus loop, 4550 Belle Terre Parkway. Hosted by the Wadsworth Elementary School Community Problem Solvers team, who are earning funds to travel to Indiana University for the International Competition. There will be books, videos, clothing, household items and more.
 

Women’s Doubles Day — 9:15 a.m. at the Palm Coast Tennis Center, 2 Commerce Blvd. Women’s tennis teams consisting of one player over 70 years of age and the other over 30 (combined ages must add to at least 110) are invited to compete in the tournament. Continental breakfast begins at 9:15 a.m. and continues with five rounds of play at 10 a.m., with prizes awarded at noon. Cost is $12 (non-members) or $10 (members), including two non-perishable food items for donation. To register, call 446-3453 or 986-2550.
 

Relay for Life Overnight Event — 2 p.m. April 28 to 8 a.m. April 29, at Central Park in Town Center. Benefits the American Cancer Society. Team campsites will feature activities, games, bounce houses and food. Center stage ongoing entertainment with DJ, live music, dance, contests, yoga and tai chi. Everyone is welcome to participate in ceremonies to "celebrate, remember, and fight back." Visitors can accompany teams as they walk the track throughout the event. Free admission and parking. Cooper Ascone Dinner/Dance — 6 p.m. at the Elks Club, 53 Old Kings Road N. Cooper is a 23-month-old boy diagnosed with Shones Complex who has had mulitple heart surgeries, with more to come. Whiffenpoofs Concert — 4 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 156 Florida Park Drive. The internationally acclaimed Whiffenpoofs of Yale University, the world’s oldest a cappella collegiate group, will perform jazz standards, classic ballads, traditional Yale songs, and their recent popular hits. Tickets cost $20 and are available at the church office or at Aimee’s Hallmark, 282 Palm Coast Parkway. Student tickets for $10will be offered at the door; a valid student ID is required.
