On Sunday, Oct. 3, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a vehicle that was driving with a cracked windshield and throwing lit cigarettes outside of the window.

Deputies located and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle on North Ocean Shore Boulevard. Deputy Gaddie asked all three people in the vehicle for identification. One of the passengers stated he did not have identification but provided deputies with a name. Deputies were able to determine he had given a false name and asked him to step out of the car. He was later identified as Marc Heinish, who was wanted in Volusia County.

Upon removing Heinish from the vehicle, he became combative and pushed the deputy. While the subject was resisting, a female passenger exited the vehicle and grabbed the deputy. Both subjects then fled before being caught and arrested. The female also had drugs, which added to her charges. Heinish is being held with no bond, while the female was held on $7,500 bond.

“Giving a false name to deputies only gets you arrested with additional charges as we will find out who you really are,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “But battery on a law enforcement officer only gets you a guaranteed stay at the Green Roof Inn as we will not tolerate anyone attacking a deputy sheriff. This also shows you the dangers that deputies face every day. There are always consequences for your actions and poor decisions, which these two found out the hard way.”
