Voters in Flagler Beach, Bunnell and Beverly Beach chose their city and town commissioners in municipal elections March 5.
Flagler Beach City Commissioners Jane Mealy and Rick Belheumer won re-election in Flagler Beach.
Voters had the opportunity to choose two candidates in the nonpartisan four-way race. A total of 1,950 had cast their ballots as of the closing of the polls at 7 p.m. (Provisional ballots will not be processed until March 8.)
Mealy received 33.64% of the vote (656 votes), and Belheumer followed with 26.31% (513). The other two candidates, Deborah R. Phillips and Paul Eik, got 22.46% (438) and 17.59% (343) respectively. Mealy was first elected in 2006. Belheumer was first elected in 2016.
The Bunnell City Commission will gain two new members: Donald Nobles and Jan Reeger were elected in a regular and a special election. In addition, sitting commissioner Bill Baxley was re-elected.
Regeer won the special election race by just two votes, beating Daisy Henry 98-96 (34.88% to 34.16%). The third candidate in that race, Tina-Marie Schultz, had 87 votes (30.96%).
Baxley and Nobles were two of the three candidates in the regular Bunnell City Commission race. Voters could select two. Baxley had 43.36% of the vote (173 votes), while Nobles had 32.08% (128 votes) and Beulah McClendon-Johnson had 24.56% (98 votes).
Bunnell voters also approved all of the seven proposed charter amendments on their ballot.
In Beverly Beach, Douglas O'Conner was elected — and Debra Wingo and Jeffrey Schuitema were re-elected — to the Beverly Beach Town Commission.
Beverly Beach voters could select three of four candidates for commission. Wingo got 30.81% of the vote (118 votes), O'Connor 25.59% (98 votes) and Schuitema 23.50% (90), while incumbent candidate Larry Mathies received 20.1% of the vote (77) and will not remain on the commission.
