Two weeks ago my daughter, Victoria Greeney, and I were sitting at the dining room table when she looked at me and said, "Let's do a lemonade stand, Daddy." I thought, "Sure, why not?" So we put our heads together and got the ball rolling.

We asked Victoria's grandma, Roseann Conklin, if she wanted to help. She suggested we could ask Carrabba's Italian Grill to donate the lemonade for our stand. Grandma also knew the owner at the Chevron on the corner and secured us a spot that Saturday for three hours. Since my daughter wants to be a veterinarian, she suggested we could donate the money to Flagler Humane Society. Now things were getting exciting.

We hoped to make at least $100 to help the animals in our community. Victoria got a hold of her two best friends, Mia Hoeni and London Hibbard, to help us sell our lemonade. They spread the word to their classrooms, and we tried to tell everyone we knew. That Saturday, we got up and decided to offer the lemonade for whatever donation people wanted to give. We had an amazing amount of support from friends, family and strangers, and we were able to raise $380 and two bags of dog food in under three hours. It was a very successful morning.

The following week, we dropped off the check to Flagler Humane Society, who were very grateful for our hard work and dedication to see this project all the way through. We would like to thank all the families involved, Carrabba's Italian Grill, Chevron on Pine Lakes Parkway, the people who donated their time and money, and especially Flagler Humane Society for helping animals when they have no place to go and no one to love them. We plan on doing an annual fundraiser for the humane society. We had such a good turn out, and we are hoping to make an even bigger contribution next year.
