Verdego Garden Center has announced a goal of donating $20,000 to support the Grace Community Food Pantry in Bunnell. All sales from the center from Wednesday, April 22, to Saturday, April 25, will be donated to the pantry.

The Grace Community Food Pantry has recently seen a huge need in our community, a Verdego press release stated. Pre-pandemic, the Food Pantry was giving out 50-60 backpacks to Flagler Schools students and food to about 800 families every weekend. These numbers have exploded to an average of 190 bags to students and to about 1,200 families every weekend.

Beginning Wednesday, April 22, through Tuesday, May 5, first responders and health care workers in the U.S. will be able to receive a free “Thank You Meal" day or night, via carry out and drive thru at participating McDonald’s locations by showing a work badge.
At breakfast, individuals can choose from several popular items.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, CareerSource Flagler Volusia has launched a new website to assist jobseekers and businesses who have suffered a job loss or have had to temporarily or permanently lay off employees as a result of COVID-19.

Jobseekers will find information on how to apply for Reemployment Assistance, download and print paper Reemployment Assistance applications, connect to online resume and interviewing workshops, and search for jobs through the statewide Employ Florida database: www.employflorida.com.
Additionally, the site provides answers to commonly asked questions, including how to reset the PIN in the CONNECT System, as well as links to frequently asked questions specific to COVID-19.
“We have staff available via phone and virtual platforms to answer general questions about Reemployment Assistance and services available for employees who are facing permanent layoffs. The number is (386) 323-7052,” said Robin King, President and CEO of CareerSource Flagler Volusia. “Businesses who may be hiring, retraining their current employees or have questions about our other services, may call (386) 323-7079 and speak with a Business Service Representative.”
Paper applications are available for residents who do not have access to the internet or have experienced difficulty using the online CONNECT system. These paper applications are available 24/7 for curbside pick-up at all three CareerSource Flagler Volusia Career Centers located in Daytona Beach, Palm Coast and Orange City. Staff will be restocking the bins daily in an effort to meet the needs of the community. The Career Centers are located at:

United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties recently announced that Florida Power & Light Company, through the NextEra Energy Foundation, is gifting the nonprofit $25,000. The funds are part of a more than $2 million gift of COVID-19 emergency assistance from the NextEra Energy family of companies for partner organizations across the country and funds made available through FPL’s Care to Share program.
“It is through donations like these that we are able to continue to do the important work we do for our communities during this challenging time,” said Courtney Edgcomb, President of United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties.
United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties will use the funds to assist those individuals and families in the local community who are unable to meet basic needs like housing, food and healthcare.
For customers experiencing hardship as a result of COVID-19, FPL has resources available at www.FPL.com/Help. To further assist customers, FPL is also suspending disconnections, providing payment extensions and waiving certain late payment fees for customers in a hardship situation.
