United Way to organize Hurricane Irma cleanup volunteers Saturday, Sept. 16
The United Way Volusia-Flagler Counties will be organizing volunteers the morning of Saturday, Sept. 16, to help with Hurricane Irma recovery efforts, according to a United Way Volusia-Flagler press release.
Volunteers and groups are asked to meet at Beach Front Grille located at 2444 S. Ocean Shore Blvd. in Flagler Beach from 8-10 a.m., or at the United Way offices at 3747 W. International Speedway Blvd. in Daytona Beach from 8 a.m. to noon, to receive assignments. They will then deploy as a group to their assigned worksites in Flagler County or Volusia County.
More than 30 individual projects in need of assistance have already been reported, and many nonprofits were flooded or damaged, causing a delay in services.
The United Way participates in various disaster preparedness groups as a volunteer coordinator, and more than 50 individuals and teams had signed up to serve as of Friday, Sept. 15.
Still, more volunteers are needed. Any individuals or groups interested in serving their community are asked to contact Francine Martin, volunteer center coordinator, at 386-275-1948.
