A man shot his wife and then himself after a marital dispute on Beechwood Lane, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office. The man, 63-year-old Ralph Lockwood, has died.

The woman, 55-year-old Maureen Lockwood, called 911 and told dispatchers what happened. She is now in stable condition at the hospital, according to the FCSO.

FCSO deputies and emergency medical personnel responded to the house at 254 Beechwood Lane at about 10 a.m. June 2, according to an FCSO news release.

They secured there home, and the Lockwoods were both found alive and airlifted to Halifax Health Medical Center while the FCSO's Investigative Services Division began its investigation.

The house did not have a history of calls for law enforcement service, according to an FCSO spokeswoman.

“This is a tragedy for all involved,” Sheriff Rick Staly said in the FCSO's news release. “I want to commend our deputies for their quick work to secure this residence so fire rescue could enter and the team effort to get them to medical treatment as quickly as possible. This is an example of how domestic violence is not always blatantly obvious and you really never know what is going on behind closed doors or in someone’s life. If you or someone you know needs help getting out of an abusive situation or assistance with getting out of an unhealthy relationship call us, call a friend, call a relative or call the domestic violence hotline. Help is available for you. Don’t wait.”
