Two children, two adults injured in four-vehicle crash on I-95

The incident began when a truck rear-ended a car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A 9-year old girl was hospitalized with critical injuries, and three more people had serious injuries, after a four-vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 95 just south of State Road 100 at about 12:15 Dec. 22.

One driver has been cited in connection with the crash, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

The incident began when a Chevrolet 3500 driven by Daytona Beach resident David Blank, 58, rear-ended a Volkswagen Jetta driven by Miami resident Delia Gonzalez-Rodriguez, 37. Gonzalez-Rodriguez had two passengers: 14-year-old Eduardo Prieto and 9-year-old Sophia Prieto, according to the news release.

The Volkswagen veered into the center lane when the Chevy struck it, and hit a Toyota Tundra driven by Palm Coast resident Gregory Fehrenkamp, 62. The Tundra overturned and struck a Honda Accord driven by Orlando resident Carla Cohen. Cohen had one passenger, 6-year-old Ana Mount.

The Chevrolet, Volkswagen and Honda all came to rest in the the inside lane, and the Toyota came to rest in the center lane. The crash blocked all lanes, according to the news release.

Sophia Prieto had critical injuries and was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, then to Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital.

Gonzalez-Rodriguez, Eduardo Prieto and Gregory Fehrenkamp all had serious injuries. Blank had no injuries. He was cited for careless driving, according to the news release.
