Deputies responded to a report of three suspects pulling on car door handles in Palm Coast’s “R” section on the evening of Saturday, Nov. 3, according to a release by the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies found three males — two of them juveniles — matching the description given to dispatch on Rae Drive at 10:19 p.m. and detained them for questioning.

One juvenile refused to speak to deputies. Another juvenile and an adult male admitted to deputies that they had broke into at least 15 vehicles that evening while looking for valuables left in unsecured cars.

Deputies recovered stolen credit cards, ammunition and other items. Deputies also found a white crystalline substance in the suspects' possession, which was identified as “fake crack cocaine” from an over the counter powder in an attempt to sell it for profit.

A resident notified deputies because the resident noticed "suspicious activity" on a home security camera.

“We are constantly asking people to ‘see something, say something," Sheriff Rick Staly said in a release. "The suspects are well known to law enforcement, and it’s time [the Department of Juvenile Justice] and the juvenile court system to stop the catch-and-release system and deal with these offenders.”

Nicholas Collins, 18, was the only adult suspect. He was charged with 15 counts of burglary of a conveyance (auto) and felony violation of probation.

The 17-year-old suspect was charged with 15 counts of burglary of conveyance, among other charges, and was taken to the DJJ.

The 16-year-old suspect, who was charged similarly, was arrested and released to a parent at the direction of the DJJ.
