Someone stole approximately $2,315 worth of backup batteries from an AT&T building on North Oceanshore Boulevard, according to a Flagler County Sheriff's Office report.

An AT&T employee told a deputy Oct. 11 that someone had stolen the building's eight GS Portalac backup batteries, cutting them out of the system.

There was a piece of negative wire on the floor, and one of the positive wires was hanging from the system tower and looked like it had been pinched by a cutting tool, according to the deputy's case report.

The front door to the structure — the only entrance — had not been damaged or pried open.

The employee told the deputy that he'd last been inside the building on Sept. 27, and had noticed that the batteries were there at that time.
