The following is an adapted news release from the Flagler County Sheriff's Office:

Sheriff’s detectives arrested a 17-year-old and charged him with attempted first-degree murder early the morning of Sept. 17,  nearly two months after a shooting in Palm Coast that left Phillip Haire, 18, critically injured.

The teenage suspect, a resident of Pine Hill Lane in Palm Coast, fled to Cleveland and then to Atlanta with U.S. Marshals on his trail before turning himself in Sept. 16.

The shooting occurred July 28 on Lewisdale Lane near Lewis Drive in the L-section of Palm Coast after witnesses said a group of males was observed fighting outside a home just before 4 p.m.

The victim, Haire, was found injured in the roadway, and was airlifted to Shands Hospital in Jacksonville with injuries to his abdomen. Haire was recently released from a rehabilitation center and has recovered from his injuries.

A nationwide warrant for the 17-year-old suspect's arrest was signed Aug. 17, but he eluded authorities until Wednesday.

“FCSO would like to thank the U.S. Marshals Service for their assistance in locating (the suspect), who fled to Cleveland, Ohio, shortly after the shooting,’’ Flagler County Sheriff' Office Corporal Nate Koep said.

When the Marshals Service closed in on him in Ohio, the suspect then fled to Atlanta, where marshals again closed in on him, Koep said. Because of the pressure, the suspect turned himself in late Wednesday to detectives.

The suspect was processed at the Flagler County jail and transported to the Division of Youth Services in Daytona Beach with no bail allowed.
