The Flagler County School Board’s two student board members, Brianna Whitfield and Kyleigh Ruddy, have coordinated with district staff and the Flagler Youth Coalition to organize a virtual Teen Town Hall event for local teens to discuss the school district’s code of conduct.

The event will be held from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, and requires pre-registration.

To register, students can email Ruddy at [email protected] or Whitfield at [email protected]. Space is limited.

School Board member Cheryl Massaro had suggested the town hall, but Whitfield and Ruddy developed the idea and organized the event, she said.

"They didn't hesitate," Massaro said at a board meeting Jan. 19.  "They jumped right in, both feet, and they started putting things together, and it is their town hall."

Three people — Massaro and two staff members — will oversee the conversation, but, "It's their show," Massaro said. "They want to generate conversation about things that are real — and we can't improve the school system until we know what they're thinking and what our students are thinking, and this is their opportunity."
