Flagler Palm Coast baseball standout Jordan Taylor signed a scholarship to play at Bethune-Cookman University, in Daytona Beach. He batted .469 this year.
Jordan Taylor, who played baseball for Flagler Palm Coast High School, signed an athletic scholarhip to play baseball at Bethune-Cookman University, in Daytona Beach.
Bethune-Cookman University is a member of NCAA Division I and a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Bethune-Cookman recently defeated Norfolk State to win its sixth straight MEAC title.
Taylor was a four-year varsity player for the Bulldogs, and he was the top pitcher and hitter his junior and senior seasons.
As a senior, Taylor batted .469 and hit six doubles, six homers, drove in 30 runs, stole 13 bases and scored 30 runs.
FPC coach Steven Poppe said Taylor has worked hard over his four-year career for this opportunity.
“He’s a great kid and deserves the chance to play at the next level,” Poppe said. “Jordan has worked hard this past season, and I know he’ll continue to push himself to get better.
“We’re all proud of him for what he has accomplished, and we all wish him luck.”
Additionally, Taylor will be entering the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft, which will begin June 6.
Poppe said a few teams are currently interested in signing Taylor, though he wasn’t sure how high — or if — Taylor would ultimately get drafted.
