Tax Collector limits services at Government Services Building to accommodate voters

With the line of people waiting to vote wrapped around the front and west side of the Government Services Building, Tax Collector Suzanne Johnston made the decision to limit services at the main office “until further notice” to accommodate the extra traffic at the building.

Voters are waiting in long lines to vote at the Flagler County Public Library in Palm Coast.

"It has been crazy here,"Library Director Holly Albanese wrote in an Oct. 19 email to County Administrator Jerry Cameron. "... I am giving out water to candidates and voters. It is extremely hot and many are waiting two hours to vote."

Voters had been lining up at the library since 7 a.m., Albanese wrote, and cars were parked up and down Palm Coast Parkway, on the sidewalks and on the grassy knoll at the library parking lot.

Early voting hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 19-31 every day, including weekends.

The Flagler County Public Library site at 2500 Palm Coast Parkway NW is one of three early voting sites in Flagler County. The others are the Flagler County Supervisor of Elections Office at 1769 E. Moody Blvd., Building 2, in Bunnell; and the Palm Coast Community Center at 305 Palm Coast Parkway NE in Palm Coast.

While tag renewal and tax payments are still available at the Government Services Building, more time-consuming services — like drivers licenses — will be handled at the Flagler Beach branch, 2525 Moody Blvd., Flagler Beach.

“Voting is so important, we are willing to do anything we can to accommodate it,” Johnston said. “Anything we can do to help our residents.”
