The following is adapted from a press release from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office:

A 23-year-old South Daytona man was arrested Tuesday, July 12, by the Daytona Beach Police Department on a Flagler County warrant for robbery in connection with a July 6 liquor store robbery in Palm Coast.

Jacob Christopher Penny, of 2552 Anastasia Drive, was picked up at the Lake Forest Apartment complex in Daytona Beach shortly after 5 p.m.

Penny is charged with the robbery at Star Liquor 3 on Belle Terre Parkway that occurred around 8:48 p.m. In that incident, Penny is accused of demanding money from the store cashier while implying he had a gun. After the clerk complied, the robber fled the scene.

“This case was closed through some good detective work and through the assistance of the public who gave us several tips as to Penny’s identity,” said Flagler County Sheriff Donald W. Fleming. “We appreciated the cooperation of the media in broadcasting the pictures of our suspect which resulted in those tips.”

Penny was booked into the Volusia County jail on $20,000.

This is the third felony robbery case closed by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office in less than a week. Two Palm Coast brothers were arrested over the weekend in connection with the June 22 robbery of the Hancock Bank in Palm Coast.
