The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residential burglary on Louisiana Drive on Saturday, July 27, after neighbors heard the sound of glass shattering. Upon arrival, deputies found a red Dodge Nitro in the driveway. As deputies attempted to clear the residence, they spotted a man wearing no shirt and red boxing gloves attempt to enter the vehicle parked in the driveway.

Deputies made commands for the suspect, later identified as 41-year- old Justin Aldrich, to step away from the vehicle. Aldrich ignored the commands, entered the vehicle and fled the scene.

FCSO units pursued the vehicle with lights and sirens activated for a brief time until it was terminated due to a concern for public safety. Deputies on location at Louisiana Drive observed forced entry and broken glass at the back door of the residence.

FCSO obtained the vehicle’s tag and entered it into the License Plate Reader system. A short time later, the LPR hit and the vehicle was located at Palm Coast Parkway. Flagler County’s Emergency Fire Flight helicopter was activated and observed the vehicle pull into the Palm Coast Post Office, where Aldrich exited the driver’s seat. Deputies converged and placed Aldrich under arrest.

Further investigation revealed that Aldrich was arrested five days prior in Volusia County for felony charges of burglary and grand theft.

“'See something, say something’ and advanced technology helped us get this repeat offender off the streets and back in jail where he belongs,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “This guy obviously did not learn his lesson and just five days after his arrest in Volusia, he is back at it again. I hope that he can turn his life around and that this is a wake-up call for him to choose a new career because he is not a very good thief.”

Aldrich was taken to AdventHealth due to injuries he sustained while breaking through the glass door on Louisiana Drive. Once he was medically cleared, he was taken to the Flagler County Jail. He was charged with fleeing and eluding, among other charges. He is being held on a $25,000 bond.
