Suicide attempt on I-95 delays traffic in Palm Coast

The man was was placed under a Baker Act and transported to Halifax Health to be treated for his injuries.

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office responded to a suicidal person near mile marker 286 on I-95 south on Monday, Oct. 15, according to a news release by the FCSO.

Deputies were able to stop the vehicle and make contact with the driver, Wilford Chason Jr., 51, of Jacksonville. Chason was in need of immediate medical attention due to self-inflicted lacerations to his arms, neck and other parts of his body.

He was placed under a Baker Act and transported to Halifax Health to be treated for his injuries. The vehicle was taken to the Sheriff's Office and secured as evidence.

In the hospital, Chason reported to medical professionals that a crime had occurred at his home in Jacksonville. FCSO notified the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office to request a welfare check at Chason’s home.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported that their homicide unit is working a death investigation at the residence.
