A new student-created video about Flagler Palm Coast High School is being shown on Palm Coast’s TV199 and Flagler County’s FCTV Channel 198. It is also being featured on the websites for the Flagler County School District, for FPC and for the ciy of Palm Coast.

The video, titled “Flagler Palm Coast High School: Past Present Future,” was created, filmed and edited by 2013 FPC graduates Mike Kozlenko, Ryan Maltby and Britni Surprenant, and TV production teacher Carl Brazell. Other students filmed some of the footage.

The 8-minute video is serving as a tool for increasing community awareness about the academic and extracurricular offerings and history of Flagler Palm Coast High and for educating new and prospective residents and businesses about the quality of Flagler Schools overall. It can be viewed at http://vimeo.com/69429548.

“The quality of an area’s public school system is critical to economic development, and this video does an excellent job in showcasing the high quality of Flagler schools and Flagler Palm Coast High School, in particular,” said Beau Falgout, the city’s senior planner for economic development. “We thank the students for sharing their video with the City for use in recruiting new businesses and residents to Palm Coast.”

Flagler Palm Coast High Principal Lynette Shott proposed the video and was involved in developing its theme.

“I am so impressed with the final product created by the students,” she said. “It does an incredible job of capturing the spirit of the quality of education and life experiences that the Flagler School System provides to the members of our community.”

The video starts with historic photos and a brief history on Flagler County’s first high school, which had its first class to complete a four-year high school program in Flagler County in 1924. It focuses on the school’s academic opportunities, career and technical education, student activities, award-winning fine arts programs and athletics program. The filmmakers interviewed students, teachers, alumni and administrators.

Before they start college in August, Kozlenko, Maltby and Surprenant are working with their TV Production teacher, Brazell, to create a shorter version of the video – focusing mainly on the career preparation and academic excellence aspects of the original video – to be used by the Flagler County Chamber of Commerce.

Kozlenko plans to attend Florida State University to study media production. Maltby will complete his associate’s degree at Daytona State College then transfer to Arizona State University to study computer science. Surprenant plans to attend Florida Institute of Technology to study psychology and neuropsychology.

The students credited their teacher, Brazell, with making the video a success. A TV Production teacher for 18 years, Brazell served as executive producer of the video and helped the students come up with the idea, write the script, determine who to interview, light sets and complete the editing.

“This project was challenging and rewarding in so many ways,” Kozlenko said. “Mr. Brazell was always there when we needed advice and his expertise. Overall, everyone in the TV production program at FPC contributed in different ways, and we could not have made this video without everyone's help."
