One pizza place has replaced another: Stoner's Pizza Joint is now open at 5 Utility Drive, Suite 28, off Old Kings Road, filling the vacancy left by Hungry Howie's. But a familiar face is still behind the counter.

Randy Posner, who had been general manager of Hungry Howie's, was given the chance by the franchisee to manage another Howie's restaurant in Jacksonville but wasn't thrilled with the long drive. When a different franchisee opened Stoner's Pizza Joint in January, Posner applied and got the same job he'd had before: general manager.

"Our customers still know me," Posner said. "They like me. My motto is: Quality plus great service equals happy. ... We're in the people business."

Posner said Stoner's makes its own dough and uses filtered water in the process, which helps the flavor. He also likes the restaurant's chicken wings.

When asked if he's ever had any mishaps throwing pizza dough, he had one story from a previous restaurant.

"I misjudged the ceiling fan," he said. He threw the dough in the air, it caught on the fan, spun around and smacked a fellow co-worker in the face.

Posner has worked for just about every pizza place in Flagler County and some in other cities as well in the past 25 years, he said. He's tried sales and other jobs, but he always ends up back in pizza. "I'm good at it," he said. "I like that look on people's faces when they say, 'It's delicious.'"
