+ Pirates baseball goes 1-1 during spring break
The Matanzas Pirates baseball team travelled to Savannah, Ga., during spring break, going 1-1 in two games.

The Pirates defeated Island High School, 15-7, Friday, April 1, and then lost to Richmond Hill, 2-1, Saturday, April 2. Nick Colaluca, who has a 3.66 GPA, went 5-for-7 on the Georgia trip, translating to a .714 batting average. Also, Paul Ricci pitched and earned the win Friday night, improving his season record to 4-1. Ricci went four innings, striking out five batters and gave up three hits.

The Pirates (5-10) play a game match Thursday against Palatka.

+ Lady Bulldogs softball improves to 13-6 with win
Coach Sarah Poppe’s Lady Bulldogs softball team is currently 13-6.

Standout players are Kayla Lamphier, who has a .579 batting average, two home runs, 22 stolen bases and 20 RBIs. Kelsey Donahue also has been playing well with a .556 batting average, 20 stolen bases and 13 RBIs.

+ Palm Coast gymnasts compete at states
Maura Stuckey and McKenzie Fairchild made it to regionals USA Gymnastics March 26, at Florida Southern College, in Lakeland. Stuckey and Fairchild both train at Palm Coast Gymnastics, and both competed in the Level 8 states. There were 215 qualifiers for states, and 98 made it to regionals. Stuckey, 15, and Fairchild, 13, practice about 15 hours each week. Individual results:

+ Gimenez, Lady Pirates beat Episcopal 14-9
The Matanzas Lady Pirates lacrosse team beat Episcopal High School, 14-9. Tuesday, April 1.
The Lady Pirates are now 5-5 and Stephanie Giminez had her second nine-goal game this season.

+ FPC lacrosse team tops Fleming Island
The Flagler Palm Coast Lady Bulldogs lacrosse team beat Fleming Island, 19-4, Tuesday, April 6. Kim Ramirez had seven goals and Cassie Crain had five goals. Goalie Katie Kastner had 14 saves.

+ Flagler Palm Coast sends three lifters to states
Three Flagler Palm Coast weightlifters qualified for the April 15 state meet.

Derron Green won the district in the heavyweight class with a 660-pound total after he benched 375 pounds and clean-and-jerked 285 pounds. Also qualifying was Aaron Pearson (169-pound weight class). Pearson benched 305 pounds and clean-and-jerked 255 pounds for a 560-pound total. Adam Mitchell also took second place in the 199-pound weight class. Mitchell benched 335 pounds and clean-and-jerked 265 pounds for a 600-pound total.
