+ Matanzas softball falls to Bartram Trail
The Matanzas Lady Pirates (8-14) softball team fell to top-seeded Bartram Trail, 6-1, Monday, April 18, in the second round of the District 4-4A tournament.
Marisa Magnuson and Amber Johnson both went 2-for-3.
+ FPC Lady Bulldogs win big over New Smyrna Beach
Flagler Palm Coast softball notched its 20th win of the season Tuessday, April 19, beating New Smyrna Beach, 19-0, in the first round of the District 2-6A tournament.
Lee Ann Spivey went 3-for-4 with five RBIs. Deetra Ware went 3-for-4 with two singles, a double and one RBI.
+ Pirates baseball loses to Creekside, sit at No. 8
The Matanzas Pirates baseball team lost its regular-season finale, Tuesday, April 19, against Creekside. The Pirates (6-15) will be the No. 8 seed and play 6 p.m. Saturday, April 23, against No. 9-seeded St. Augustine, at Matanzas High School, in the first round of the District 5-4A tournament.
+ Bulldogs lose to Trinity Christian, fall to 11-13
The Flagler Palm Coast Bulldogs baseball team (13-11) lost to Trinity Christian (17-5), 6-3, Monday, April 18, at Bulldog Field.
FPC’s Lorenzo Butler went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Jordan Taylor pitched and struck out four, walked six and gave up four runs.
+ FPC lifters place two at state meet: Mitchell, Green
The Flagler Palm Coast weightlifting team sent three lifters to the state tournament Friday, April 15, at the Kissimmee Civic Center.
Adam Mitchell (199 pounds) finished in seventh place with a 335-pound bench press and 265-pound clean-and-jerk.
Derron Green (heavyweight) finished in sixth place after benching 390 pounds and clean-and-jerking 295 pounds.
Aaron Pearson was disqualified after missing on his three bench press attempts.
STATE CONTENDERS
The Flagler Titans and the Flagler Raiders will be competing for a state championship in youth football Saturday, April 23, in Tarpon Springs.
The Flagler Titans, led by coach Korey Kasch, compete in the PeeWee division for 8- to 10-year-olds. They won the Florida Spring Youth Football League and beat the North Brevard Hawks, 12-0, in the conference finals.
The Titans (No. 4 seed in the East Conference) will face the Azalea Junkyard Dawgs, the No. 1 West Conference seed, in the state championship.
In the Midget division for 11- to 12-year-olds, the Flagler Raiders, coached by Don Mathews, upset the top-seeded Middleburg Broncos, 14-0, in the East Conference finals.
The Raiders will play the Fort Myers Firecats (No. 1 seed in the West Conference) in the state championship game.
