+ FPC boys soccer loses in semi-finals
The Flagler Palm Coast boys soccer team fell to Spruce Creek, 3-2, in the District 2-6A semifinals Thursday, Jan. 28.
The Bulldogs held a 2-1 lead with about five seconds remaining in the second half; however, Spruce Creek (22-1-4) managed to score in the final seconds and then score in the opening minutes of overtime.
Johnny Osorio and Mark Kalaj scored the Bulldogs’ two goals.
+ FPC girls soccer falls in quarterfinals
The Flagler Palm Coast girls soccer team lost to Neptune Beach Fletcher High School, 1-0, in the Class 6A regional quarterfinals Thursday, Jan. 28.
The Lady Bulldogs gave up a goal with about six minutes left in regulation, and were knocked out of the state playoffs.
Coach Pete Hald said the players fought hard.
“We were very disappointed because we were the better team,” Hald said. “My back four (defenders) played awesome, (goalkeeper) Haley (Lademann) was solid and we worked very hard.”
Hald said both teams had nine shots, with six of FPC’s on target, compared to three by Fletcher.
+ FPC sends four weightlifters to states
The Flagler Palm Coast girls weightlifting team will send four to the state meet Feb. 12, in Kissimmee. The Lady Bulldogs placed four of its five lifters in the District 6 sectionals Jan. 26, and now have a chance at the school’s first state medal.
Lady Bulldogs coach Duane Hagstrom said his team has come a long way in a short time.
“The hard part is over. Now we will just continue to do what we have been doing and hope that we can get them on the podium,” Hagstrom said.
Added Hagstrom: “I am extremely proud of what the girls have accomplished this year, and hopefully their success is going to spark a tradition here that will carry on for many more years to come.”

Aaliyah Lewis (169): Benched 165 and clean-and-jerked 145
Desiree Nieves (Unlimited): Benched 155 and clean-and-jerked 140
+ MHS girls basketball
The Matanzas Girls basketball team’s season ended at the hands of Ponte Vedra.
The Lady Pirates lost 38-24 Saturday, Jan. 29, in the first round of the District 4-4A tournament.
