On the road to success
Matanzas senior soccer players Dakotah Casale and Reiley Pickering recently signed their national letters of intent and will be forwarding their education and career at Mount Olive University in Mount Olive, North Carolina, and Truett-McConnell College Bears located in Cleveland, Georgia.
Casale leaves behind a legacy as a varsity letterman. He finished his career with 73 Goals—many game-winners—and 33 assists.
He was selected First-Team All-State by The Florida Athletic Coaches Association, and he captained the Pirates who reached 2014 Elite Eight as well as the regional semifinal this year before losing a 1-0 heartbreaker to state champions Ponte Vedra.
Pickering was a three-year varsity letterman, and, in the last two years, he anchored the defense that only surrendered 34 goals in 43 games (0.8 Goals against average) despite playing top teams in the state. Reiley will also join his sister, Bailey, who recently committed to the Bears and will transfer from South Georgia State College to play soccer.
Flagler Palm Coast senior wrestle Evyn Insalaco signed his letter of intent to forward his education and wrestling career at Southeastern University in Lakeland.
Insalaco reached the state tournament three times and made it to the podium each year. He finished his high school wrestling career with a total of 198 wins, and, just last week, Insalaco won the 160-pound division at the AAU Spring
State Championship Meet.
Henshaw gets All-State honors
FPC Lady Bulldog Tamara Henshaw was selected a consecutive season as a FACA Second-Team All-State honoree.
Henshaw led the Lady Bulldogs to a 24-2 record and a district championship. She will moving on to play for the
University of South Florida this upcoming year.
Henshaw averaged 13 points, eight rebounds, four steals and 2.6 blocks per game.
Matanzas alum earns college First-Team honors
Stephanie Stuart, a 2014 Matanzas graduate, was selected on the First-Team in the Sunshine State Conference as a lacrosse goalie with Florida Tech in Melbourne. Stuart and Florida Tech made strides this past season, earning an
IWLCA ranking as high as 19th on a weekly poll.
Flagler Attack wrestling wins state championships
Flagler Attack wrestlers came away with multiple individual state AAU championships this past weekend at FPC.
Varsity state champions included Michael DeAugustino, 126 pounds; Avery Holder, 132; Michael Martins, 145; Evyn Insalaco, 160; Anthony Mascraella, 182; Christian Sheppard won the sole junior varsity
championship, and Drew Dance of Buddy Taylor won the 102-pound middle school division.
