Error dooms Lady Pirates vs. St. Augustine in softball
Scoreless through four innings Wednesday, St. Augustine capitalized on a Matanzas error to score one run in the fifth and one run in the sixth, eventually beating the Lady Pirates, 2-0.

Christina Reynolds started for Matanzas and allowed four hits with one strikeout and no walks over seven innings.

Matanzas had just three hits: Morgan Lambert went 2-for-3 with two singles. Bri Evans went 1-for-1.

Summer Haire, the Lady Pirates’ left fielder, garnered praise from Matanzas coach Sara Novak for four “outstanding” putouts.

Very studious: Matanzas teams recognized for grades
High school athletes are called student-athletes for a reason: Education comes first. Three teams at Matanzas High School apparently got the memo, as they were recognized this week by the Florida High School Athletic Association for team GPAs: girls basketball, coached by Abude Koushakjy; girls soccer, coached by Tony Benvenuto; girls weightlifting, coached by Sara Novak.
