+ Lady Bulldogs set shutout record in soccer
In one word: Domination.

The Flagler Palm Coast Lady Bulldogs are the epitome of soccer supremacy so far this season.

Last week, FPC (21-0-2) broke the school record for shutouts in a season, which was previously 15. The Lady Bulldogs now have 19 shutouts, and counting.

So far this season, FPC has outscored its opponents 91-4. Senior keeper Haley Lademann has only given up three goals in 23 games.

Senior midfielder Miranda Campbell leads the team in points with 33 goals and 16 assists. Freshman forward Christen Barney has 24 goals and 14 assists.

Coach Pete Hald, who is in his 21st season, said the team’s defense has been critical.

“One of the biggest differences this year compared to last year is we have a better possession game,” Hald said last week. “That has helped the defense, and has helped create a ton more chances to score.”

+ Gilyard returns to NFL, inks deal with Eagles
Former Flagler Palm Coast standout Mardy Gilyard will be back on the football field next season after missing all of the 2011 season.

Gilyard signed a futures contract Friday, Jan. 6, with the Philadelphia Eagles. Because Gilyard wasn’t on a team when the 2011 regular season ended, he was eligible to sign the futures contract prior to the beginning of the 2012 season, which begins in March.

Gilyard, 25, has six catches for 63 yards in 11 career NFL games. He was a fourth-round pick in the 2010 NFL draft.

In his rookie season, Gilyard battled several injuries, including a wrist injury which required surgery.

Gilyard will now be catching passes from Michael Vick, his favorite NFL quarterback.

Additionally, Gilyard will bring his kick-returning abilities to the Northeast.

In 2010, while playing his senior season at the University of Cincinnati, Gilyard returned 16 kickoffs for 356 yards (22.3 yards per return), with a long of 34. He was named an All-American kick returner. During his career with the Bearcats, Gilyard caught 204 passes for 3,003 yards and 25 touchdowns.

+ FPC boys soccer: 9-2
With just two games remaining in the regular season, the Flagler Palm Coast Bulldogs soccer team will likely be the No. 2 seed in the District 2-5A tournament.

FPC (9-2-0) trails only Spruce Creek in the district. Both the Bulldogs’ remaining games are district contests.

Johnny Osorio leads FPC in scoring with 16 goals and eight assists. Martin Maschio is second on the team in points with 11 goals and five assists.

The Bulldogs play 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, at district-leading Spruce Creek.

+ Lady Bulldogs hoops at 13 wins, six losses
Flagler Palm Coast Lady Bulldogs basketball currently holds the No. 2 seed for the district tournament with five regular-season games remaining.

Senior Diajah Davis leads the team in scoring, averaging 21 points and 10 rebounds per game. Walker is averaging 14 points and six assists per game.

Coach Javier Bevacqua’s team could earn the top seed when the Lady Bulldogs square off 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, against Mandarin.

+ Lady Pirates soccer team takes second in conference
The Matanzas Lady Pirates soccer team lost to Creekside, 5-1, Tuesday night in the St. Johns River Athletic Conference championship game.

+ Bulldogs football gives back to community
It’s all about giving back, FPC coach Caesar Campana says.

The Flagler Palm Coast Bulldogs football team helped give back to the community Saturday, Jan. 7. More than 40 players donated six hours of their day to help the Flagler Rotary Club take down Christmas and holiday displays at Town Center, in Palm Coast.

“I want our players to get involved in community activities this year to show them that there is more to life than football,” Campana said. “I also want the Flagler County community to see what outstanding young men our football players are.”
