+ Sophomore Shana Taulbee competes at states in bowling for Matanzas High School
Matanzas sophomore bowler Shana Taulbee competed at the state bowling meet last week, where she finished 16th.

Taulbee had to bowl four 10-pin games just to get her seeding. In the four games, she bowled an 840 (207, 195, 216, 222).

Later in the day, Taulbee was pitted against 13th-seeded Rebecca Goodwin, of Atlantic. Despite bowling a 410 for the series, Taulbee lost and was moved to the consolation bracket.

In her first match in the consolation bracket, Taulbee bowled against No. 5 seed KcKenna Pietizha, of Mount Dora. Taulbee lost despite bowling a 197 and a 192.

Taulbee finished the season the farthest of any bowler in Flagler County.

Matanzas coach Kim Saltmarsh said she’s looking forward to next season. Taulbee, who is only a sophomore, will be back.

“Now that we have experience under our belts from competing at states, we know what to expect,” Saltmarsh said.
