Flagler Country Sheriff's Office deputies and U.S. Marshals the morning of Aug. 24 arrested a man wanted in multiple states for violent crimes, according to an FSCO news release.
The FCSO's Fugitive Unit and patrol deputies worked with the U.S. Marshal’s Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force to catch Jody Reynolds, 35, a fugitive from Jackson County, Oregon.
Reynolds was wanted for his involvement in the home invasion robbery of a marijuana dispensary in December of 2016, according to the news release.
During the robbery, Reynolds took part in beating the owner of the store with a crowbar and firewood as well as burning him repeatedly with a torch lighter, according to Oregon authorities.
After beating the store owner and leaving him for dead, Reynolds and his crew had planned to load the stolen marijuana into a rented truck for transportation, but they crashed the truck into a neighbor’s front yard. The thieves abandoned the truck and told the homeowner that they would be back to have it towed.
But the homeowner took pictures of the truck’s license plate and provided them to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, and detectives were able to identify Reynolds and the rest of his gang, according to the news release.
Reynolds eluded authorities for almost two years until U.S. Marshals tracked Reynolds to a home in Palm Coast's B-Section, where he was believed to be staying with his girlfriend.
Due to Reynolds’ violent history, backup was requested and FCSO’s Fugitive Unit and patrol deputies responded, according to the news release.
FCSO and U.S. Marshals surrounded the home and were about to make entry when Reynolds came outside and tried to get on his bicycle. He was stopped and arrested without incident.
“This is another great example of teamwork between agencies,” Sheriff Rick Staly said in the news release. “Let it be known to criminals across the country, if you think you can commit a crime and then hide out in Flagler County, we will find you and you will be arrested. This was great work getting a very violent offender off the streets.”
Reynolds is being held at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility. He is charged in Oregon with burglary, aggravated theft and multiple counts of assault and robbery, and he is also charged in Alabama with felony failure to appear for dangerous drugs, no bond.
