The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office was able to successfully drive down the crime rate in Flagler County in 2019. Since Sheriff Rick Staly took office in 2017, the crime rate has dropped 36%. Crime in Flagler County dropped 1.2% from 2016 to 2017, 22% from 2017 to 2018, and an additional 17% from 2018 to 2019.

The FCSO has submitted the 2019 uniform crime report to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The report shows all data collected for crimes that were reported in 2019 in FCSO’s primary jurisdiction in Flagler County. The crime statistics in the primary jurisdiction of the FCSO have again decreased significantly between 2018 and 2019. Total index crimes are down 17% from 2018. Violent crime (murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault) is down 14.2%, and property crime (burglary, larceny and motor vehicle
theft) is down 20.1%. The clearance rate of reported crime remains at 33%, similar to 2018.

“We have implemented many new programs and initiatives since I became sheriff three years ago and between our team putting those programs into practice, utilizing intelligence led policing, and leveraging the technology available at their fingertips, we are seeing great results,” Staly said. “We routinely check on probationers – both adult and juvenile; we have dedicated teams with a sole focus on problem areas and problem crimes and tackle them week in and week out; we have an expanded traffic unit that is present on high-crash roadways and conducts numerous driver safety campaigns throughout the year; we offer the S.T.R.I.D.E. program in our jails to help get inmates on the right track upon release; and we have the S.W.E.A.T. program that takes potentially troubled youth and shows them the path they are headed down if they don’t turn their lives around. We are not a complacent agency; we are an agency with innovative, forward thinkers and proactive enforcement and crime reduction.”

In addition to releasing the results of the 2019 crime data, FCSO has also compiled the 2019 annual report, which is available electronically. The report shows initiatives achieved by the FCSO month-by-month in 2019. It can be viewed here: http://www.flaglersheriff.com/2019-annual-report-2.

A semi-annual uniform crime report (January-June 2019) was released by FDLE in December 2019 showing a statewide decrease in crime by 6.1%. The preliminary statistics reported to FDLE will be reviewed and verified before being formally distributed and posted on the FDLE website in the future.

FDLE began tracking crime statistics in 1971.
