Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Undersheriff Rick Staly announced today that civilian employee Elizabeth Cretella was arrested and charged with misuse of public office, a third-degree felony.

Sheriff James L. Manfre ordered an investigation on Jan. 22 after information was received that there may have been an unlawful release of information on Sept. 20, 2012, involving an active investigation of Cretella’s son.

“Sheriff’s Office employees are entrusted to maintain confidentiality and to not release confidential information that could impede a criminal investigation,” Staly said.

“Violations of the law and our policies will not be tolerated,” he added.

Cretella was arrested on a Flagler County warrant at her home in Edgewater by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office and booked into the Volusia County Jail with bond set at $2,000. The investigation was conducted by the Sheriff’s Investigative Services Division and is continuing.

Cretella has been an employee of the Sheriff’s Office since 2006 and was assigned to the Accreditation Unit where she was responsible for ensuring compliance with agency policies. Cretella was immediately suspended without pay.
