After School Board Chair Trevor Tucker reported to the board in December that he received a complaint against board attorney Kristy Gavin, the board requested a procedure be established for handling citizen complaints against the superintendent or attorney.

With direction from the board, Gavin formulated a procedure. At its regular meeting on March 22, the board will vote on whether to add it to its operations and procedure manual.

The procedure would go into effect if a citizen accuses the superintendent or attorney of violating federal or state law or regulation.

The complain must be signed and include what law or regulation was violated, dates and details with names of people who may have information regarding the allegation.

The board would determine if an investigation is warranted. If the board votes to investigate, it may refer it to an outside investigator. The investigation would have to be completed within 90 of receiving the complaint. The board would then decide what action, if any, is warranted.

Board members discussed the procedure at workshops and are expected to approve it at the meeting.
