The School Board agreed in its workshop Tuesday, March 1, that it supported a renewal of the half-penny sales tax that was instated in 2002.

Since put to law, the tax has raised $29 million through 2010 for Flagler County Schools. It was with part of that funding (an estimated $2 million) that Belle Terre Elementary School was built. The funding has also been used to purchase MacBooks for use in classrooms.

“(We need the tax renewed) to keep us where we are, to keep the status quo,” Administrator Mike Judd said.

During the meeting, the board also approved Palm Coast FiberNET’s bid to provide the wide area network for the schools; LUX Communications will be the Internet service provider, saving roughly $5,000 annually, while upgrading Internet speed.
