Tuesday night, March 15, at the Government Services Building, the School Board approved a list of more than $3.5 million worth of proposed budget cuts, in a 4-1 vote. John Fischer voted against.
Although approved, most of the reduction options will need to be negotiated and voted on by teachers and unions. The recommended cuts:
• Pathways to reduce its facilities — save $250,000
• 261-day employees to reduce days by six — save $349,881
• 206-, 216- and 226-day employees to reduce days by five — save $162,196
• Districtwide energy reductions — save $300,000
• Campus advisers to be reduced (BTMS, ITMS, 2 positions) — save $41,144
• Paraprofessionals to reduce days to 6.5 hours — save $185,978
• High schools to reduce time of school days, cutting 26 teaching positions — save $1.3 million
• Middle schools to reduce school days, reduce 16 teaching positions — save $800,000
• Print management, reduce copier contracts/cartridge refills— save $87,000
• Uniform schedules of office support staff — save $82,491
