The Sabal Palms Senior Living community on Palm Harbor Parkway will construct a new phase of its campus as an independent living facility.

The first phase of the community was approved in 2016, with 82 units for assisted living and memory care, and completed construction in November 2017.
The second, final phase of the community will have 100 age-restricted independent living units, Greg Spiro, managing member of Sabal Palms owner Protea Senior Living Palm Coast, told Palm Coast Planning and Land Development Regulation Board members at a board meeting on Oct. 20.
“I’ve watched this city grow into an incredible, vibrant community,” Spiro said. “Along with the growth has come a massive, unmet demand for quality independent living, and we believe Phase 2 will address that demand.”
One board member urged Spiro to have 10% of the units set aside for veterans.
The independent living facility will take up about 7 acres of the almost-19-acre property at 2125 Palm Harbor Parkway, about half a mile east of Matanzas High School. The property is zoned neighbored commercial and is surrounded by properties zoned for single-family homes, duplexes and agriculture.
The new phase’s amenities will include a 6-hole putting course, a pool and spa with cabanas, a garden area, a pickleball court, an outside barbecue area, a dining hall, an exercise facility, a theater, a card room, a billiard room and sports bar, a lounge, an ice cream parlor and restaurants.
Planning board members voted unanimously to approve the technical site plan for the second phase.
