*The following is a release from Flagler Schools Administrative Coordinator Sabrina Crosby. The results were compiled by Jim Devine, testing coordinator.

The Florida Department of Education released the third-grade FCAT results for 2011 Reading and Mathematics. The third grade Reading results determine promotion to the fourth grade. Students who score level two and above qualify for promotion. Students who score level one must be retained … The FCAT Mathematics scores have no bearing on promotion or retention.

The district results for Flagler County show the district above the state in Reading, for students scoring level three and above, and at the same level as the state for Mathematics, for students scoring level three and above.

This was the first year that the new Next Generation Sunshine State Standards were assessed. The results were measured using the former scale of the FCAT. For more information on these changes… CLICK HERE

The comparison to prior year’s (results) are provided because these scores have a similar meaning but not exactly the same meaning with the move to the new standards.

Belle Terre Elementary School and Rymfire Elementary had the highest percent of proficient students in Reading with 86% scoring level three and above at both schools. In Mathematics, Old Kings Elementary (measured in) with 87%, and Belle Terre Elementary, with 86%, lead the district in this category.

Rymfire Elementary showed the most improvement from prior year of all district schools in both Reading and Math. Rymfire improved 12 percentage points in Reading (74 to 86) and 10 percentage points in Mathematics (73% to 83%). Imagine School at Town Center also improved with a five percentage increase in Reading (72% to 77%) and an eight-point increase in Mathematics (76% to 84%).
