An icon in the Flagler School system, Paula St. Francis, principal at Rymfire Elementary, will retire effective Oct. 30.

The message leaked out during board comments at the end of the school board meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 6, when Andy Dance told St. Francis she would be missed.

“Paula has been a mentor to me personally and professionally.  I would not be in the position I am in without her guidance over the years. She has inspired us to try to follow in her footsteps and we appreciate it,” said School Superintendent Jacob Oliva.

St. Francis has been the principal at Rymfire since the day it opened 10 years ago. Prior to the opening of Rymfire, she was the principal at Wadsworth Elementary and has worked in the Flagler County school district for 29 of her 39-year education career.

“She has been a beacon where ever she’s been,” Janet McDonald, school board member.
