Little girls in their best dresses could be seen scattered throughout the audience Thursday night at The State Ballet Theatre of Russia’s performance of Sergey Prokofiev’s “Cinderella,” at the Flagler Auditorium.
This is the third year that the ballet company has performed at the auditorium as part of its U.S. tour. The ballet-fairy tale tells the story of Cinderella, who could not go to the ball because of her poor dress. The enchantress, with the help of the Fairies of the Seasons and the gnomes create Cinderella a beautiful gown and she is gifted new shoes. But the dress made by the fairies will not last the whole night. At midnight, after meeting The Prince, Cinderella must leave, but one of her shoes is left behind. The prince finds the shoe and later uses it to reunite with Cinderella.
The leads of Cinderella and The Prince were danced by prima ballerina Svetlana Noskova and principal dancer Denis Kaganer.
