After one year and seven months of planning, filing paperwork and permits, dealing with inspections and more, Rudy’s Delicatessen and Eatery is — finally — open.

"I always wanted to have something of my own."

Virtude Pereira, Store Owner

The restaurant, located in St. Joe Business Plaza at 4984 Palm Coast Parkway NW, Unit 3, is owned by Virtude Pereira, whose nickname is “Rudy.” She first got the idea of opening a deli about 10 years ago when she was still living in New York.

She didn’t want to open a full-blown restaurant because it would be too time consuming and too difficult to manage on her own.

The deli will satisfy her love of cooking and baking, while it’s smaller size will make it easier to run.

“I like to have my own business,” said Pereira, who worked in a deli when she was 17. “I want to manage my own thing.”

Rudy’s had a soft opening on Tuesday, June 11, and the response from the community was immediate. The deli serves a variety of foods, including hot and cold sandwiches, hot meals, salads, soups and desserts.

“I want to make everybody happy,” Pereira said. “When I make a dish, I like to see people loving it. It makes my day.”
