The final piece of the roundabout at US 1 and Matanzas Woods Parkway opened to traffic on Aug. 24.

Construction of the $2.6 million roundabout began Oct. 23, 2019, requiring the intersection to fully close to traffic and necessitating seven months of detours onto Belle Terre Parkway and Old Kings Road before the roundabout had a partial reopening, for right turns only, on May 11.

As of Aug. 24, the roundabout is open to traffic from both directions, and only a few minor items remain until it is completed, according to a news release from the Florida Department of Transportation.

The opening comes slightly ahead of schedule: The right-turn-only lane arrangement had been expected to last through Aug. 31.

The project also included the construction of sidewalks and crosswalks for people crossing through the intersection on the existing trail, as well as improvements to drainage, landscaping and highway lighting, according to the news release. The contractor for the project is P&S Paving.
