Rodgers, Lady Pirates headed to states

Matanzas girls golf team will do something next week that no golf team in Matanzas’ short history has done: compete at the state meet.

The Lady Pirates qualified for the Class 2A state tournament, which will take place Tuesday, Nov. 1 and Wednesday, Nov. 2, at Mission Inn Resort, in Howey-in-the-Hills.

The Lady Pirates took second place in the district and the region, finishing behind Ponte Vedra both times.

Individually, senior standout Mary Rodgers won the district tournament and then took second place in the region.

The rest of the golfers headed to states include Christina Reynolds, Amber Johnson, Sara Komanowski and Lindsay Sanchez.
