A local homeowner used their RING camera to aid law enforcement in the recovery of a stolen truck, according to a news release by the Flagler County Sheriff's Office. The homeowner saw three males on the camera running from the driveway.

Deputies responded at Llobell Place in Palm Coast to conduct an investigation to determine if any crimes had been committed. Deputies located a vehicle that was identified as stolen from Lloshire Path. The vehicle was a gray 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck with various work related items in the bed of the truck, including a chainsaw, a cooler and oil.

A “be on the lookout” alert was sent to neighboring agencies regarding the stolen vehicle. Nearly a minute after the alert was issued, a Bunnell police officer located the stolen vehicle driving recklessly before getting stuck in the mud on Hymon Circle in Bunnell. Four subjects fled from the vehicle, but the officer was able to apprehend one suspect.

A perimeter was established by Flagler deputies, and Volusia County Sheriff’s Office’s AirOne helicopter responded. The three additional suspects were found and taken into custody.

Two of the suspects were 15 years old, and the other two were 14 years old. They were all placed under arrest and charged with grand theft auto as well as resisting an officer without violence. Two of the teens were placed on home detention supervision, pending a detention hearing by the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice. The DJJ released the other two to their parents.

The vehicle was returned to its owner.

“This is a reminder to always lock your car doors and do not leave your keys in your vehicle to help us prevent crimes of opportunity," Sheriff Rick Staly said in a release. "This is also another great example of ‘see something, say something’ and I thank the alert resident who called us to report the suspicious activity.”
