Belle Terre Elementary School's Theresa and Ed Wolff have been team teaching for 20 years.

Theresa teaches language arts and social studies and Ed teaches science and math with their fifth grade students flipping between their two classrooms halfway through the day.

The couple is retiring at the end of the school year. The other fifth grade teachers at BTES are planning a retirement celebration for the Wolffs at 5:30 p.m. May 6 at the Village Pub & Deli in the European Village. Fifth grade teacher and singer Gabby Samuels will provide entertainment. The public is invited to celebrate with the couple.

Theresa has been a teacher for 34 years. Her husband, Ed, has been teaching for 27 years. They recently bought an RV and plan to go on a working vacation of sorts.

"We want to do some street ministry while we're traveling," said Ed who is a deacon and a member of the choir at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. "I have a degree in bioethics. I used to to do prison ministry in 1987 and '88 when I got out of the Air Force. We want to fill backpacks with toiletries and give them away. But we'll also be going on vacation."

ED WOLFF

Ed believes he and Theresa were the first in the county to team teach, which they started at Indian Trails when it was a K-8 center.

"I love science and math, and my wife prefers language arts," Ed said. "We feel that by team teaching, we are providing a family role model for our students."

The couple has also led several school clubs over the years, including a science club where the students worked with aquaponics, hydroponics, wind generators, solar power, landscaping, gardening and 3D printing.

"We generated many grants and even created our own business which the kids named 'The Wolffpack Enterprises,'" Ed said. "They were responsible for all aspects of the company. They made and sold 3D printed items and cricut items my wife helped them create."
