In a report that the Daytona Beach News-Journal said took months to compile, 269 men and women in public offices in Volusia and Flagler counties earned $100,000 or more in 2010. The News-Journal said it was "the most comprehensive survey of public salaries ever conducted in the Volusia-Flagler area — 18,000 jobs totaling $783 million in tax dollars."
The top overall was Kent Sharples, former president of Daytona State College, whose total package, including a $1.2 million buyout, was $1,805,106 in 2010.
