Group-by-group, eager to learn, kids rotated through stations Saturday, July 14, learning about knots, the marine environment, casting a rod and net, and water safety, until finally they were handed a fishing pole of their own so they could try their luck at catching a fish.

The adventure was part of the Flagler Sportfishing Club’s third-annual Kids Fishing Clinic at Bings Landing.

The event, held in conjunction with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, is the club’s largest community outreach event each year. As a special bonus this year, 12 fishermen and an adult chaperon were picked from a drawing to join club captains on their boats for a day of fishing.

The event also collected nonperishable food items to be donated to the Flagler County Resource Center. The center is open 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday through Friday.
