Read it and weep: Bunnell Elementary wins battle

Bunnell Elementary took the win Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the Battle of the Books for the second year in a row.

The countywide competition requires the sixth-grade teams to read seven books and answer questions about the them in a three-round, head-to-head competition. The books read by students were “Charlie Joe Jackson’s Guide to Not Reading,” by Tom Greenwald; “The Dangerous Days of Daniel X,” by James Patterson; “Dead End in Norvelt,” by Jack Gantos; “The Fantastic Secret of Owen Jester,” by Barbara O’Connor; “Kingdom Keepers: Disney After Dark,” by Ridley Pearson; and “Turtle in Paradise,” by Jennifer L. Holm.

“It’s amazing how much time they put in to read seven books and give up their free time to practice,” said Bunnell Principal Richard Dupont. “Of course, Bunnell is happy we have won it two years in a row. That makes it even more of a challenge for the other schools. I hope they’re hungry for us for next year.”
