Pirates top Deltona in season-opener

The Pirates will play in a Thanksgiving tournament Nov. 25 and Nov. 26, at home.

The Matanzas Pirates boys basketball team opened its season with a victory.

The Pirates (1-0) defeated Deltona, 55-51, and never trailed in the game.

Chris Johnson led the way with 15 points, four rebounds and four steals. Ivan Tsabak also scored 15 points, and went 2-for-2 from the 3-point line. Shawn White had 10 points and five reounds.

Next up, the Pirates will host the 5th-Annual Kiwanis Shootout. The Pirates play 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, against North Florida Institute, and again 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, against Interlachen.
