Freshman Nick Jahn and sophomore Carter Subers helped lead Matanzas past Flagler Palm Coast in golf.

The Matanzas boys golf team got its first two victories of the season Sept. 8, one of which came over crosstown rival Flagler Palm Coast High School.

Matanzas, Flagler Palm Coast and St. Joseph Academy squared off last week in a three-school meet. The Pirates won, shooting a cumulative match low of 169.

Matanzas coach Ray Sykes said his team is young, but he expects his players to gain experience as the season progresses.

“As the team moves through the season, they will gain confidence, and our scores will be a lot lower,” Sykes said.

Leading the way for the Pirates were freshman Nick Jahn, sophomore Carter Subers and junior Jacob Baldwin.

“The best thing about our team is that each of the players are pushing each other to improve,” Sykes said.

FPC was led by Danny Gerherd, who shot a 41, and Barrett Manfre, who shot a 51.
