As Dorian did its worst on Flagler County — much less than had been feared — on Wednesday morning, locals captured photos and witnessed the strength of the waves that lashed the Flagler Pier.
Bill Egan, who lives in Flagler Beach, said Irma dumped 2 feet of water into his home. To prepare for Dorian, he added sealing foam to his doors' gaps to avoid flooding.
The Flagler Beach Fire Department crew was also by the pier. Capt. Stephen Cox said they have been fully staffed and ready since Sunday to respond to any scenario.
Randy Schmiemeier and his wife, Robin Swain, moved to Palm Coast a year ago. "This was our first hurricane experience, and we were ready," they said.
