Palm Coast resident Donna Heiss is already decorating her 44-foot Marine Trader Trawler named “Southerly” for the 36th-annual Palm Coast Holiday Boat Parade, which will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15.
Heiss has been in the parade at least three times already, and her decoration theme this year is "Wish Upon A Star.” She said she will be using about 60,000 lights to deck out the boat, which will show shooting stars from the antennas and a large reindeer guiding the way, with presents falling into the sleigh. Port and starboard sides of the boat will feature swimming mermaids holding stars as well as giant wreaths. The bridge will be completely lit with lights. The dingy platform will hold a Christmas tree with a giant floating angel placing its star on top.
According to a news release, Dec. 15 has been named “Palm Coast Holiday Boat Parade Day,” as declared by a mayoral proclamation by Palm Coast Mayor Milissa Holland.
Registration is now open to all to participate in the parade. For registration forms, boat captains are urged to contact Parade Captain Robert Ulis at 283-5166 or at [email protected]. Boats must be decorated and registered to participate, but there is no entry fee. Visit https://palmcoastyachtclub.com.
On Saturday, Dec. 8, the Flagler Beach Yacht Club encourages Palm Coast residents living along Country Club Waterway (the main canal), Coral Reef Waterway and other canals in the C and F sections to come out to help the club's carolers, on 15 or more festively decked boats, spread joy and merriment. Weather permitting, the club will start at 10:30 a.m. at the Palm Coast Marina, then head up Country Club Waterway towards the F and C Sections. You may see Santa, Snoopy and a bunch of crazy dancers.
In addition, the club encourages people to stop by the main branch of the Flagler County Public Library to see the club’s uniquely decorated Christmas tree.
The Irish Social Club of Palm Coast held its monthly meeting and dinner/dance on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at the Palm Coast Elks Club. This fall, the club’s charity is for troops deployed in Afghanistan. The club collected and donated toiletries, sunscreen, anti-fungal cream and snacks, to name a few. These donations will be forwarded to them through the Soldier's Ministry.

The African American Cultural Society will hold its 25th-annual Holiday Gift Giving Celebration at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, at the AACS Center, 4422 N. US Highway 1. This annual tradition distributes gifts to selected less fortunate families of Flagler County. Unwrapped toys and gifts for children age 3 to 7 may be left with the center administrator, who can be reached at 447-7030.
